I didn't notice how quickly time was passing, until Fiona popped her head in.
″Sorry to interrupt girls, how's it going?″
″Good. I feel like I'm really getting it.″ I told her.
″I thought so, it sounded like you were having fun.″
I winced, ″Are we being too loud?″
″Not at all.″ She smiled, ″It should be fun! And you look just right standing there with the camera. I'll be going home soon, but you can lock up if you want?″
″Is it that late?″ I asked.
″It's ok, if you girls want to carry on, it's no trouble.″
I looked at Delilah, and took the smile she gave me as encouragement, ″Ok, if that's ok.″
″Of course.″ Fiona said, she passed me her keys, ″I'll get you your own keys soon, but keep these tonight.″
″Thank you.″ An unexpected sense of pride filled me as I took hold of the keys. I'd never had keys to anywhere I worked before. To be trusted with them felt pretty great.
″I'll see you tomorrow. Bye Delilah.″
″Thanks Fiona. Bye.″
I turned to Delilah, knowing I'd been too wrapped up in what we were doing to think about the time, ″Do you have to be anywhere, or is this ok?″
″Nope. That's the thing with living alone, I'm never really in a big hurry to get home.″ She smiled.
″It has to be pretty awesome though?″ I asked, taking a couple of candid shots while we talked.
″Yeah, it is most of the time. Sometimes it's a little quiet.″ she said, ″I never pictured myself living alone, you know? But the time felt right, the apartment became available, it just made sense.″
″When you say you never imagined living alone...?″ I couldn't finish it. I shouldn't even have started to ask.
″It's stupid I know. I always thought when we grew up, we'd live together.″ From where I was standing it was hard to say whether she was blushing, or just flushed from all the laughter that had now died in the room. Her head was down, and as much as I should have been worrying about what to say next, I snapped a photo instead. That one would be especially beautiful, I already knew it.
″It isn't stupid. I always thought that too.″ I said. She looked up, met my eyes, but didn't say a word.
